“Bring back flogging; kids are getting out of control.” Maame Dokono supports

Maame Dokono, a veteran Ghanaian actress and broadcaster, has rekindled the discussion about child discipline by advocating for the return of corporal punishment in both homes and schools.
At the “A Convergence of Mothers” forum in Accra, which was hosted by media personality MzGee, the well-known actress shared her strong opinions about the apparent lack of discipline among today’s kids. Based on her own experience as a mother of six, Maame Dokono maintained that more stringent disciplinary actions are necessary to address the youth’s aberrant behavior.
”Back in the day, I never spared the rod when raising my children, I disciplined them when necessary and praised them when they behaved well. That’s how parenting should be”
”When a child went astray, four boys would hold them while they were caned — it was a way to drum sense into them. These days, they tell us not to beat children. We need to bring that back”
Her comments coincide with debates about whether physical punishment is appropriate or whether non-violent, rehabilitative methods should be prioritized in Ghanaian society, which is still divided on the subject of child discipline.
