A 29-year-old mechanic named Abdulai Kadiri was sentenced to life in prison for the savage murder of his own 9-month-old daughter after he allegedly fed her acid in a case that shocked the country.
Court documents and family testimony indicate that the tragic event was caused by Kadiri’s relationship with Doris Amatey, a young woman, which started in 2020.
Doris found out she was pregnant after only three months of dating. After finding out about the pregnancy, Kadiri encouraged her to end it, but Doris resolutely refused.
Kadiri tried to convince her by making up the story that he had scheduled an abortion with a physician at Tema General Hospital.
Doris, however, was adamant about keeping the pregnancy. After that, Kadiri emotionally distanced himself from her but kept paying for her prenatal care.
Assuming there was no reason for concern, he insisted that the baby be named Muniratu Awudu Doris and left Kadiri with the child for a short while while she bathed. He did not attend the child’s naming ceremony but rather GHS 350.
In a matter of seconds, the baby let out a shrill cry. When Doris hurried outside, she saw the baby in Kadiri’s arms, her clothes clearly burned and her mouth severely discolored.

the infant to the Prampram Polyclinic, where medical professionals found evidence of acid poisoning.
After being sent to Tema General Hospital, the infant was subsequently moved to Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, where she tragically passed away during her stay.
According to medical professionals, the child consumed a highly caustic substance that burned through the cloth she was wrapped in in addition to having an internal impact.
Soon after, Kadiri was taken into custody and accused of murder.
The judge in court called the act “monstrous and inhumane,” and he was given a life sentence without the chance of release.
