Menzgold Case: Police Service, EOCO, BoG, SEC, and three other organizations will be called as witnesses by NAM1.

The founder of the now-defunct Menzgold Ghana Limited, Nana Appiah Mensah, also known as NAM1, has told the Accra High Court that he will not be providing witness statements in support of his defense in the current criminal trial. Instead, seven state institutions will be subpoenaed to testify in court by NAM1.

The Ghana Police Service, Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO), Bank of Ghana, Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Minerals Commission, Agricultural Development Bank, Zenith Bank, and the Ghana Police Service are among the organizations to be subpoenaed, according to a letter sent to the court by Kwame Akuffo Boafo, the attorney for NAM1.

NAM1, two of his businesses, Menzgold Ghana Limited (2nd Accused) and Brew Marketing Consult (3rd Accused), are charged with 35 counts, including money laundering, defrauding by false pretenses, operating a deposit-taking business without a license, enticing investors to invest, and selling gold without authorization.

NAM1’s attorney, who was once again absent due to health reasons, stated during the Thursday, July 24, 2025, court proceedings that his client would not be providing witness statements and would instead rely on subpoenaing the aforementioned institutions to testify.

The attorney for NAM1 called the court’s earlier rulings “worrying and prejudicial.”

Citing his attorney’s illness-related absence, NAM1 begged for additional time to prepare his defense.

Speaking directly to the Court, NAM1 stated that he wanted to open

This implies that they will present oral testimony to support their position. They have stated that they plan to subpoena several institutions, which I assumed would strengthen their defense. The time allotted for the accused individuals who are in court today (Thursday, July 24) to present their defense—which they have indicated they will do—must not be taken away by that procedure.
