Asiedu Nketia demands that EC Chair Jean Mensa and his deputies be fired for their ineptitude.

Johnson Asiedu Nketia, the national chairman of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), has demanded that Jean Mensa, the chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), her two deputies, Drs. Bossman Asare and Samuel Tettey, as well as Commission member Dr. Peter Appiahene, be fired immediately.

Mr. Nketia cites the unresolved Ablekuma North parliamentary results, which are still pending over six months after the general election in 2024, as proof that the current leadership of the election management body has demonstrated incompetence.

He stressed the need for a total “reset” of the Commission and called the current EC leadership unfit for purpose in an interview with Accra-based Joy News.

The way the EC is operating now is not fit for purpose. With all the laws we have, there is no justification for an election to end in a stalemate. Our legal framework makes no room for such an outcome unless people are simply failing to do their jobs properly. This is a clear case of negligence or an inability to perform its functions.
