For GH¢10 million, Sammy Gyamfi is suing Afia Schwarzenegger for defamation.

GoldBod CEO Sammy Gyamfi has filed a lawsuit against vocal media personality Valentina Nana Agyeiwaa, better known as Afia Schwarzenegger, seeking GH¢10 million in defamation damages.
The lawsuit, which was submitted to the High Court on Wednesday, July 23, charges Afia Schwarzenegger with disseminating malicious and false information in an effort to damage Mr. Gyamfi’s reputation both personally and professionally.

Afia Schwarzenegger’s claims that Mr. Gyamfi bought real estate in the US for his wife and her alleged sister are at the heart of the lawsuit.

Mr. Gyamfi categorically refutes the allegations, claiming that he has never purchased real estate overseas for his spouse or any family members and adding that “his wife does not even have a sister named Vida,” as falsely claimed.

The plaintiff also denied claims that he had purchased cars for girlfriends or had a romantic relationship with female University of Ghana students.

He maintains that the accusations are wholly untrue and purposefully made to portray him as dishonest and unreliable.

Mr. Gyamfi asserts that Afia Schwarzenegger demonstrated reckless disregard for the truth or knew the statements were untrue.

He claims that because of her remarks, he has been the subject of intense public scrutiny and challenging questions from high-ranking officials, political allies, friends, and family members worldwide.

In the suit, Mr. Gyamfi is requesting the court to grant:

  • General damages for defamation,
  • A perpetual injunction preventing Afia Schwarzenegger from repeating or spreading the defamatory claims,
  • Exemplary damages of GH¢10 million,
  • A public retraction and unqualified apology, to be published in three consecutive editions of the Daily Graphic and posted on TikTok and other platforms where the original statements were made,
  • Legal costs, including counsel fees,
  • And any additional relief the court deems appropriate.

The suit was filed by Saani Mahmoud Abdul-Rasheed of Sustineri Attorneys PRUC in Accra.
