GH₵300,000 After intense rain in Takoradi, AstroTurf is transformed into a swimming pool.

Over the weekend, an AstroTurf in Takoradi was totally submerged due to the area’s intense rainfall.

Following the intense downpour, the Effiakuma AstroTurf was flooded, and residents were observed swimming in it.

The park was overflowing with water as residents played football in the rain and others took swimming lessons in the park’s pool, according to a video posted on social media by Maxpong Sports.

A number of comments on the post raised concerns about the consequences of their behavior on the field, while others questioned the facility’s subpar design.

Built in 2018 by the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation’s (GNPC) corporate social investment arm, the GNPC Foundation, the facility was intended to be the community’s primary football field.

A sod-cutting ceremony was held on Friday, July 13, 2018, to begin construction of the state-of-the-art facility at Takoradi’s Effiakuma Police Park. Within the next six months, the sandy ground will be transformed into an ultra-modern AstroTurf.
