Minority demands CHRAJ action after blaming BoG for firing more than 100 workers.

The Bank of Ghana (BoG) has come under heavy fire from the Minority Caucus in Parliament for what it claims is the “illegal” termination of more than 100 (2024) employees.

The minority claims that the decision is a blatant disregard for the Constitution, labor laws, and fundamental decency standards, and that it violates the nation’s Labour Act, 2003 (Act 651).

On Thursday, June 19, 2025, the impacted employees allegedly received letters of termination signed by Mrs. Lucy Sasu, Head of the Department of Human Resources and Capacity Development. According to the letters, they were fired after completing their required six-month probationary period.

However, the Minority Caucus questioned the reasoning behind the action and charged that the central bank’s management was ignoring parliamentary oversight during a press conference on Tuesday, June 24. According to the caucus:

”It is particularly troubling that the Bank of Ghana proceeded with these dismissals while a motion for a parliamentary inquiry is pending before the House. This is a slap in the face of Parliament and a disregard for democratic oversight. No institution should act with such impunity”.

The Minority emphasized that the problem is “more than a legal matter – it is a moral crisis,” adding that the impacted employees are currently dealing with financial hardship, psychological distress, and dashed hopes.

As a result, the Caucus has demanded that the fired employees be reinstated immediately and that Dr. Johnson Asiama, the governor of the Bank of Ghana, be called before Parliament for alleged abuse of power.
