Actor Prince David Osei of Ghana has attacked Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, after the US government recently decided to make it more difficult for Ghanaians to obtain visas.
The Bureau of Consular Affairs of the U.S. Department of State announced modifications to its visa reciprocity policy with Ghana on July 9, 2025. Ghanaian applicants for business and tourism visas (B1/B2) will only be granted single-entry visas with a three-month validity period under the new regulations. Applicants for F-1 student visas are now subject to the same restriction.

A concerning conversation between the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee and Ghana’s foreign minister lies at the core of this problem. Instead of having a calm, diplomatic conversation, the minister’s response sounded dismissive and defensive.
He also criticized Ablakwa for failing to demonstrate collective government accountability in his response to American concerns.
