The government finally discusses the National Cathedral Site’s future.

Amid mounting rumors regarding the future of Ghana’s contentious National Cathedral project, Communications Minister Felix Kwakye Ofosu has finally spoken out against allegations that the government intends to relocate the project entirely.
The minister clarified any misunderstandings regarding the site’s future during an appearance on TV3’s Key Points program on Saturday. “No decision has been taken,” he said, adding that the conversion proposal had only been sent to the 24-Hour Economy Secretariat.
The explanation follows President Mahama’s directive to restructure the scandal-plagued cathedral project completely.
Following Deloitte and Touche’s damning findings, the President disbanded the National Cathedral Secretariat and assigned the Attorney General to conduct a forensic audit.
Despite construction barely moving past foundation level, the extra $39 million went to contractor Sir David Adjaye and Associates.
The Attorney General has been directed by President Mahama to dissolve the Board of Trustees and end the contract in a legal manner. For the sake of transparency, the Deloitte report will be released right away.
Since work ceased in March 2023, daily expenses have been increasing, contributing to the financial strain of what critics refer to as the most costly hole in the world.
